Whenever an Indian or International list featuring the best restaurants from the world is drawn up, the name from India that was always expected to show up on it, was Indian Accent. In 2024 as well, Indian Accent and Comorin made it to the list of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants for 2024. Indian Accent, New Delhi, was ranked 26th while Comorin, Gurugram, was ranked 79th in the extended list. The restaurant which has consistently been touted as India’s #1 and more importantly its chef has broken the glass ceiling for decades.

Chef Manish Mehrotra’s long and spectacular career doesn’t need any introduction as such. However, when the chef announced his decision to take a break from the two award-winning restaurants it brought back a flood of memories for restauranteurs, chefs, and diners alike. Who can forget the Blue Cheese Naan that foodies could never get enough of or that Daulat Ki Chaat that transformed the humble offering from the streets of Delhi into a fine-dining gem?

EVH, the parent company that owns Indian Accent and Comorin and is helmed by restaurateur Rohit Khattar released a press statement that said, “The Company is grateful for all his services and contributions during the past two decades and wishes him all the very best for his future. Chef Manish leaves a wonderful legacy at the two restaurant brands (Indian Accent and Comorin), which he helped build and nurture with his immense culinary talent and dedication He is an exceptional leader and human being and will be sorely missed, but we wish him all the very best in his future journey and adventures."

In the statement, the chef also spoke about his journey, "I joined the company when I was a young man in the year 2000 and have grown with this company. I have learned a lot and received great opportunities and support. There's a time when one needs to explore new frontiers and spend some time with the family and that time has come for me," he shared.

Talking about his team and the one that will continue to hold fort at the restaurants he also said, "I leave very confident that the kitchen teams at all Indian Accent and Comorin restaurants are fully capable of maintaining the standards of excellence that these two restaurant brands are known for. I shall be closely watching and cheering all the chefs from the sidelines, especially Chef Shantanu Mehrotra, Executive Chef of Indian Accent New Delhi, who has been with me right from Day 1 and Chef Rijul Gulati who is doing a terrific job as Head Chef, Indian Accent Mumbai. The sweetest part about his note though was how he ended it by saying “Promising to come back soon with something new, something exciting…”
