Bicerin is a decadent multi-layered hot chocolate drink that is made with a wonderful kick of espresso and further combined with a warm drinking chocolate, milk and typically served layered in a small glass. The word ‘Bicerin’ is an Italian word for small glass, which is traditionally the way it is served in and enjoyed. Bicerin is a traditional hot drink native to Turin, Italy which was invented centuries ago. It was the time during the early 18th century when it first began its journey to stealing the attention of Italian people and then spread all over the world, earning a name for being one of the most decadent drinks ever. Back in those days, it was not only a favorite of ordinary people but in fact this drink received praises and admiration from a famous French writer, Alexandre Dumas. The key feature of this drink that sets it apart from other hot chocolate drinks is the way how it's carefully and exquisitely layered in a glass bit by bit rather than mixing everything together at once. So here are the steps of making this indulgent drink at home.

Ingredients-

  • 30ml hot drinking chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoon coffee beans
  • Sugar as per taste
  • Whipped cream for topping

Steps in the making-

  • Grind the coffee beans to a fine powder,  mix it with steamed water in a glass. Stir and mix.
  • In another glass, combine hot drinking chocolate with some cocoa powder and add a tablespoon of sugar into it or as per taste. Stir and whisk it well.
  • Pour this mixture into the first glass filled with a freshly brewed espresso and then layer it with a fresh whipped cream over the top.
  • Voila! Bicerin is ready to serve hot.

Don’t forget to grab a spoon alongside your glass of bicerin to get a taste of every foamy and heavenly layer.
