In his latest post, Amitabh gave a shoutout to a legendary eatery from the by lanes of Daryaganj in Old Delhi, and foodies just can’t keep calm.

Amitabh Bachchan is currently shooting for a movie in Old Delhi along with Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Neena Gupta and Sarika. Kher also shared a picture of the group on his social media announcing the project. Meanwhile, Amitabh shared a black and white picture of himself revealing that he is indeed currently in Daryanganj, at the “exquisite eatery - MOTI MAHAL!!” Take a look at his post:

“Stepping out into the old-world charm of Daryaganj, Delhi .. the renown of its exquisite eatery - MOTI MAHAL ..!! and apparently still the same excellence ..” Amitabh wrote in the caption. Iconic, isn’t it? That’s exactly what Moti Mahal is all about. The restaurant dates back to the pre-partition era when Kundan Lal Gujral began to work as an assistant in the eatery in early 1900`s. It was then owned by Sardar Mukha Singh, but eventually Kundal Lal took the eatery to greater heights. Post the partition, when Kundal Lal had to leave everything and come to Delhi, he led the trail which began in Peshawar`s Gora Bazaar to Delhi’s then liveliest area Daryaganj. There in 1947, Kundan found a small place on the road side and re-established Moti Mahal once again.

Today Kundal Lal Gujral is credited for the invention of butter chicken as well as Dal Makhani, that has been in the likes of Pandit Nehru to what seems like even Amitabh Bachchan. As per Moti Mahal’s website, the restaurant has been the first venue for local and visiting dignitaries to sample this most innovative and popular Indian cuisine. The list includes Shah of Iran, US president Richard Nixon, Jackeline Kennedy, Canadian primer mister Trudeau, King of Nepal, Soviet leaders Alexie Kosygin, Nikolai Bulganin, Zulfikar Bhutto etc.
