This day is believed to liberate people from the cycle of birth and death. Hence, people observe fast to embark on the route of spirituality and let go of any impure thoughts and greed. Many people wear yellow clothes and visit nearby temples to worship Lord Vishnu or his incarnations. If you are also observing fast today or celebrating Aja Ekadashi, prepare these delights in your kitchen and offer them to Lord Vishnu.
Kuttu Ka Dosa
Many people would swear by not liking kuttu ki roti or puri, but you can use the flour to prepare dosa. Combine buckwheat flour with green chillies, ghee, rock salt, and potatoes. Keep the mixture enough so that you can spread it. You can also avoid adding potatoes and stuff them inside the crispy dosa and enjoy the South Indian delight.
Aloo Ki Sabzi
You can prepare potato curry without onion and garlic. Prepare the gravy using tomato puree and cook it in spices like black pepper, garam masala, rock salt, green chillies, ginger, and red chilli powder. Add mashed boiled potatoes and fresh coriander leaves at the end. This is paired with rajgira paratha or kuttu puri for a soulful meal when you break the fast.
Lauki Ki Sabzi
Another vegetable that you can prepare without using tamsik elements like onion and garlic is bottle gourd. It is hydrating and tastes delicious when topped with fresh coriander leaves and lemon juice. Temper it with green chillies, ghee, and cumin seeds. It is lightweight and exactly what your stomach needs after fasting throughout the day.
Coconut Ladoo
To please Lord Vishnu, you should consider making something sweet like coconut ladoo. They are nutritious and can be prepared without much hassle. You will need condensed milk, grated coconut, ghee, and cardamom powder to prepare these unique, healthy, and melt-in-the-mouth spheres. Present this treat to Lord Vishnu as a part of the bhog.
Sama Rice Khichdi
Sama rice is also referred to as vrat ke chawal which you can use as the star ingredient to prepare a delicious and healthy batch of khichdi. Add peanuts, potatoes, rock salt, and ghee, quite like how you prepare sabudana ki khichdi. This filling dish can also be served to Lord Vishnu among other delights in Ekadashi fast spread.
Makhana Kheer
Similar to Janmashtami, makhana kheer is a special part of the prasad prepared on Aja Ekadashi. Fox nuts, also termed superfoods, are cooked in boiling milk to prepare a creamy, rich, and nutritious dessert. If you would like to take the health quotient a notch higher, add crushed nuts and dry fruits of your choice and garnish with cardamom powder and saffron strands.
Singhare Ka Halwa
Water chestnuts (or singhare) are also consumed during fasts. You can purchase singhare ka atta and prepare halwa using at-home ingredients like ghee, sugar, cardamom powder, and dry fruits of your choice. This is a scrumptious dessert that will satisfy your hunger, add nutrition to your body, and satiate your sugar cravings.
