You no longer have to find old spots where these candies are sold, because you can make them in the comfort of your home by following simple recipes. Not only that, you can relive your childhood with your children, nieces, and nephews–not to mention adults from your own generation for a fun party. Here are a few options curated for you.

Imli Pops (Tamarind Pops)

The mention of imli or tamarind pops can leave you drooling. With a tangy taste with a hint of sweet flavour, these candies are good for your digestive system. You have to start by making sugar syrup in a pan.

In another pan, boil tamarind pulp, fennel seeds, and jaggery in just half a cup of water on medium flame. Mash these ingredients after they become soft and strain the mixture. Add black salt and sugar syrup to it and combine into a delicious paste. Pour these into lollipop moulds, freeze for a couple of hours, and enjoy.

Glass Candies

Do you remember trying candies that look like broken glasses? They were colourful and used to give an instant sugar rush to the body. In a heavy pan, heat white sugar, water, and corn syrup on medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Bring it to a boil, and do not stir during this process.

Pour this mixture into different containers and add food colouring. Mix everything until the colouring spreads evenly throughout the sugary syrup. Pour these combinations into candy moulds lined with powdered sugar. Sprinkle some powdered sugar on the top, refrigerate the candies for 3-4 hours, and enjoy.

Aam Papad or Fruit Leather

Every Indian kid knows what aam papad is. It is sold in many shops, and just a slice of it can rewind your brain, leaving you to reminisce about the time when you used to share it with your friends and cousins. You will need peeled and chopped mangoes to make this candy.

Puree mangoes and keep them aside in a bowl. Add cardamom, sugar, and salt to it and mix the concoction. Pour this puree on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and let it dry out in the oven for at least 6-8 hours. Cut and roll pieces to store them in an airtight container.

Peanut Butter Candies

If you are making candies, why not try making healthier ones? For peanut butter candies, you only need four ingredients and a little bit of time. It starts by melting chocolate in a double boiler until its texture appears smooth and silky.

Add some powdered sugar to peanut butter along with graham crackers and mix it well into a lumpless mixture. Add vanilla extract and spread it on a baking tray. Top it with melted chocolate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Cut into rectangles and enjoy these candies whenever you want.

Caramel Candies

Caramel candies are sweet and everyone’s favourite. They have the right amount of sugar and taste palatable. Start by boiling milk in a pan over medium flame. Turn down the flame to a low setting and add sugar to it.

Once the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has thickened and turned caramel brown, remove it from heat. Let it cool for just a few minutes and pour it down into silicone moulds. After refrigerating for 2-3 hours, you can enjoy these for weeks.
