Stop! 5 solid reasons why throwing radish leaves away is a culinary sin

Most of us love to gorge on radish all throughout the winter season. The crunch, spice, and texture that radish brings to your palate is unbeatable. But, many people consider radish greens as waste and tend to throw them away. If you’re guilty of this culinary mistake, save your radish leaves from next time on!

You must be unfamiliar with the nutritional values of radish greens, commonly known in India as mooli ke patte. They are absolutely edible and offer a wide variety of health benefits too. Isn’t it surprising?

While you may still not be convinced to eat them, Delhi-based nutritionist Kavita Devgan’s nutritional insights about radish leaves may change your mind.

“The leaves of radish are even more nutrient dense than the radish itself. These greens are usually discarded without a thought,” says Devgan, who is also a weight loss consultant and a best-selling health writer.

Here are some of the health benefits you can reap by eating radish leaves:

1. They can treat anaemia

Mooli ke patte deliver loads of iron, which helps cut fatigue, and are particularly good for people who are suffering from anaemia and low hemoglobin levels.

2. Immunity booster

Radish greens are loaded with vitamin C, as much as 6 times more per serving than the radish itself. Including a good amount of vitamin C is known to boost the immune system big time. This, in turn, keeps you protected from seasonal allergies and even Covid-19.
