Directions : Strike Frite Bites Recipe

STEP 1.In a large dutch oven or saucepan heat oil and butter over medium heat.

STEP 2.Add onions and stir until they are well coated.

STEP 3.Cover and cook onions for 15 minutes.

STEP 4.Remove the lid and season the onions with salt, pepper and sugar.

STEP 5.Cook the onions for an additional 30 minutes, stirring often.

STEP 6.Onions should be deep golden brown.

STEP 7.Once onions are caramelized stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.

STEP 8.Add broth and fresh thyme and bring the mixture to a boil.

STEP 9.Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 30 minutes.

STEP 10.Ladle soup into individual, oven-safe bowls and top with crostini and cheese.

STEP 11.Bake at 375°f until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

STEP 12.Serve hot from the oven.
