I remember the time I was out trying Singaporean cuisine, I ended up ordering a bao. The crispy chicken filling and the soft and moist exterior holding it together blended in my mouth really well. For the unversed, baos are soft buns made from yeast which are leavened so that they rise to become fluffy and soft. Also known as Baozi, baos are quite common in Chinese cuisine and today, you’ll find them featuring on various Asian menus. Most often, the buns or baos are steamed to attain the perfect texture and taste, right after they are filled with a stuffing.

This time, it was Ranveer Singh who wowed us with his bao-ful day. The enthusiastic Bollywood celebrity is well-known for his charismatic demeanor and high-spirited vibe. He is also often seen grabbing a yummy bite here and there. He even complimented Deepika Padukone for her cooking skills on his recent stories. However, what got us hooked was the image of his plate of baos. What’s so exciting about them? You are about to find out.

The image shared by the actor was that of ice cream baos and we cannot stop looking at them. Giving us a top shot of the spread, there are multiple baos in the frame with a brown bun on top and at the bottom. In between, we see a creamy white layer which we are guessing is vanilla ice cream. The thick ice cream layer is seen drooping out of the baos, making our mouths water.

If Ranveer Singh is enjoying is baos in peace, so can we. Here are some yummy bao recipes to try at home.

1.  Chive And Mushroom Baos

A spicy and chunky mixture of chives, mushrooms and spring onions is prepared. It is tossed with some garlic for flavour. Finally it is stuffed into the baos and steamed. It doesn’t end here. The baos are pan-fried after that for a distinct hue and crispy exterior.

2.  Banh Bao

A Vietnamese specialty, the banh baos are a treat to the taste buds. Usually stuffed with scallions, sausages, pork and shrimps, the meaty baos can be made less meaty with this preparation. Fill the rice cakes with eggs, Chinese sausages, shitake mushrooms and you are good to go.

3.  Fish Finger Bao

Soft and melt-in-your-mouth fish with a crispy exterior is well-balanced with the outer soft buns complementing it really well. The fish finger are rolled into a circular shape and placed in the centre of the bao with some lettuce on the base and tartare sauce on top.
