Christmas is a joyful time filled with baking pies, roasting a turkey, and making everything from cakes to puddings to please every member of the family. But after you’ve spent a merry Christmas lies perhaps the member who silently did all the work - the steam oven. When you wake up after celebrating Christmas, the last thing you would want to do is clean the grease out of your oven and get rid of the lingering odour.
So, to make the tedious task easier, here is a guide on how to clean Usha’s steam oven effectively after the extensive festive cooking. Read on to discover how you can utilise the preset modes of the oven to quickly eliminate greasy splashes, stains, and even the smell.
Steam Clean
The smartest hack to clean your Usha’s steam oven is by utilising its steam. If your oven has a dedicated steam clean mode, the day after Christmas is the best time to run it. If not, you can simply place a bowl of water with a few slices of lemon inside the oven. Steam at 100°C for about fifteen to twenty minutes, and the condensed vapours will wipe away the stains and grease faster than ever.
Deodorise The Interior
Whether you’ve roasted a turkey or fish, or assorted veggies, the steam oven will naturally trap their smell. Since the appliance holds moisture, the odour can even be passed onto the next thing you bake. To get rid of it, you can use a bowl of activated charcoal or some coffee grounds in the oven. Leave the bowl overnight to neutralise the smell.
Soak The Removable Parts

Once the walls of Usha’s steam oven are clean, you can take the removable racks and tracks out of it. Since the baking trays or wires will have the most food residue, soak them in a washing sink or even a bucket filled with water mixed with a dishwashing liquid. Speak for at least half an hour, and once the residue starts to break down, scrub using a sponge, and rinse.
Clean The Door, Seal, And Glass Panel

The most overlooked parts of the steam oven while cleaning include the door, the seal and the glass panel. But the best part is that they are the easiest to clean, so don’t miss out on quick wipes with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner to make your steam oven spotless. Double-check the rubber door, as small food particles get stuck in the gaps and make the inside smell bad. You can also use a toothbrush to reach the gaps.
Wipe And Dry
After you’ve paid attention to all the parts of the oven, wipe every surface with a dry cloth. Once the walls are completely dry, wipe the trays and racks before placing them back. Then, run the steam oven on dry heat or convection mode at 100°C for 10 minutes. This will help you get rid of the moisture, thus preventing the development of mould, rust, or odours.
