2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
Additional flour for dusting
Melted butter or ghee for brushing (optional)
Garlic, chopped cilantro, or other seasonings (optional)


  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Mix flour and salt in a bigger bowl and add the yeast mixture, yoghurt, and vegetable oil. Form a soft and manageable dough which is not too dry or wet.
  3. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes stretchy.
  4. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for 1-2 hours.
  5. After the dough rises, punch it and divide it into 6-8 balls.
  6. Heat the griddle or skillet that you're using to make the naan.
  7. Roll each ball into an oval-shaped disk with 1/4 inch thickness. You don't have to be stressed about deforming shape.
  8. Put the disc onto the griddle and let it go for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form.
  9. Cook evenly from both sides. Brush melted butter along with cilantro and chopped Garlic.
  10. Your naan is ready!
