- Chicken Roast With Onion Rings

One of the most popular ways of consuming chicken is roast chicken, which essentially means roasting the chicken over a fire or with a rotisserie. Eating this dish with onion rings adds a nice crunch and flavour to the chicken, complementing it well. To make a chicken roast, one needs, besides the chicken, a range of items for the marination. These include chilli flakes, paprika, lime zest, oil, pepper, garlic, oregano, red wine vinegar, and salt as per taste. For garnishing, coriander leaves will do the trick. And for onion rings, one requires onions, milk, white vinegar, sour cream, flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and oil.
The onion ring has a debated history. The concept of frying an onion can be traced back to the Indian Pakoda, which also predates the Japanese tempura. But among the earliest onion rings recipe to appear is the 1802 cookbook The Art of Cookery Made Easy and Refined by John Mollard. It offers “ample directions for preparing every article requisite for furnishing the tables of the nobleman, gentleman, and tradesman.” Among them are “fried onions with Parmezan [sic] cheese.” Its popularity in America cannot be explained very easily. A 1908 recipe and another from 1910 detail French fried onions, the latter calling it “a novelty that progressive New York restaurants are introducing with great appreciation from their patrons.” Many others call the 1921 Pig Stand the onion ring’s birthplace.
Irrespective of where the onion rings originated, they’re a global phenomenon today, and there’s even a day dedicated to them, 22 June is Onion Rings Day!
