Think of the word "tropical" and what comes to mind is a montage of hot afternoons, verdant foliage, chirping birds, the grit of sand under your foot, and the sound of the waves rushing to the shore, almost as if it had an appointment with you it couldn't miss. You'll probably also think of luscious fruit, good food and plenty to drink. The Tropical Sparkling Cocktail delivers on both these ideas and more.

The "Tropical" in the cocktail's name comes from the quintessentially tropical ingredients of pineapple, coconut, orange etc. The "Sparkling" comes from the Champagne or sparkling wine used in the drink. The standard ingredients for a Tropical Sparkling Cocktail entail coconut rum, pineapple juice, grenadine, and prosecco. A maraschino cherry and plenty of ice finish off the drink.

The Tropical Sparkling Cocktail doesn't seem to have a well-documented history. Partly this may be because the name itself is used for several other variants of the drink as well. But it could just be because of its status as a relatively modern drink. It's one of those global citizen cocktails that has crossed borders with ease to become a globally known beverage. Much like iconic drinks become their own phenomenon, untethered by geography/place and time, so too has the Tropical Sparkling Cocktail followed suit.

Now excuse us while we go sample some.
