Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the yellow lentils for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Pressure cook the lentils with water, turmeric powder, and salt until soft.
  • STEP 3.Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and garlic.
  • STEP 4.Saute until onions turn golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
  • STEP 6.Add the cooked lentils and mix well. Adjust the consistency by adding water if needed.
  • STEP 7.Simmer for 5-10 minutes until the flavors blend together.
  • STEP 8.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.

  • Soaking the lentils helps in reducing the cooking time.
  • You can add a pinch of asafoetida (hing) while tempering for extra flavor.
