Ingredients for Vettu Cake Recipe

  • 0.33 cup Maida
  • 0.33 tablespoon Semolina
  • 0.17 cup Sugar
  • 0.33 pinch Salt
  • 0.67 No.s Cardamom
  • 0.33 teaspoon Vanilla or Pineapple Essence
  • 0.08 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 0.33 No.s Egg
  • 0.17 teaspoon Ghee or oil
  • A pinch food colour
  • As required Oil For Frying

Steps to prepare

  • STEP 1.Take ½ cup sugar in a jar and 2 cardamoms (remove the peel). Grind it to a fine powder.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Take 1 cup maida in a bowl, add 1 tbsp roasted semolina/rava. Mix it well.
  • STEP 2.Add 2 pinch baking soda or ¼ tsp baking powder and add a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  • STEP 3.Take a bowl and beat an egg. Add the powdered sugar to it. Mix it well. Add 1 tsp vanilla/pineapple essence, a yellow food colour pinch, and ½ tsp butter/ghee. Mix well.
  • STEP 4.Add this mixture to the bowl with maida. Knead the dough with your hands. The consistency should be the same as that of roti dough. If the water content is less, milk can be added. Cover it with a towel or apply oil, cover it with a lid, and let it rest for 2hrs.
  • STEP 5.After two hours, take the dough and roll it with your hand to make a cylindrical shape. Using a knife, cut it into small equal parts.
  • STEP 6.Make cross cuts on the top of each piece.
  • STEP 7.Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Fry the vettu cake in medium-low flame. Fry until both sides are cooked. Transfer the vettu cake into a paper towel when it attains a golden colour.
  • STEP 8.Vettu cake is ready to be served.

  • STEP 1.Cardamom is optional.
  • STEP 2.Sugar quantity can be changed according to the requirement.
  • STEP 3.Milk can be used instead of egg.
  • STEP 4.Desired patterns can be given by making changes in the cut pattern.
