Venna undalu is a traditional recipe in south Indian homes normally prepared during the Krishna Jayanthi festival. Venna vundalu is a traditional recipe in South Indian homes normally prepared during the Sri Krishna Janmashtami (Gokulashtami) festival. This recipe also makes a great evening time snack or a teatime snack as it is very simple to make with few ingredients. And, for health-conscious and thoughtful eaters, we have used rice flour instead of all-purpose flour and jaggery in the place of sugar, so that you can binge on it without any worries.

Ingredients for Venna Undalu Recipe

  • 200 gram Wet rice flour
  • 50 gram Black gram flour
  • 5 gram Hing
  • 70 gram Butter
  • As required Salt
  • 2 tablespoon Chana dal
  • A Few coconut peices
  • 1/2 liter Water for kneading
  • 1 liter oil for frying

Directions: Venna Undalu Recipe

  • STEP 1.Rinse and soak chana dal for 4-5 hours.
  • STEP 2.In a mixing bowl add 200gm of wet rice flour,50gm of black gram flour, 5gm of hing, 70gm of butter and salt, mix everything well.
  • STEP 3.Now add soaked chana dal, and coconut pieces in the bowl and mix well.
  • STEP 4.Add water in small quantities to prepare the dough.
  • STEP 5.Prepare small balls from the dough and keep aside.
  • STEP 6.In a pot, heat oil for frying and add the dough balls in it when the balls are partially fried remove them from oil for 3 minutes.
  • STEP 7.Again fry the balls, this time until they are golden in color.
  • STEP 8.Remove excess oil from the undalu and serve.
