Veg Kozhikal Recipe

Veg kozhikal is a street food generally obtainable in the Kannur's Thalassery area and is also an ideal evening snack to pair up with tea. The word kozhikal is made up of two words where 'kozhi' implies chicken and 'kal' suggest leg; hence the meaning is chicken leg. Don't worry vegetarians, as this recipe does not include tapioca (pure veg) chicken. Do you like spicy snacks? Then it's a must-try recipe for you.   • 37.50 gram Tapioca
  • 0.03 teaspoon Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 No.s Green chilli
  • 0.13 piece Ginger
  • 0.38 No.s Garlic Cloves
  • As required Salt
  • 0.13 teaspoon Kashmiri chilli
  • 1/4 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 0.06 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1/2 tablespoon Gram flour
  • 1/4 tablespoon Rice flour
  • 0.13 tablespoon Semolina
  • A Few curry leaves
  • 0.13 pinch Asafoetida
  • As required Oil to fry

Steps to prepare

  • STEP 1.Peel and wash the tapioca

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Take a pan and boil some water. Then, add the tapioca and let it cook for 2 mins.
  • STEP 2.Let it cool down. Cut it lengthwise into thin strips like french fries.
  • STEP 3.Take a bowl and add 3-4 crushed green chillies, crushed small piece ginger, 3 crushed garlic, chopped curry leaves, a pinch of turmeric powder, 1tsp Kashmiri chilli powder, ¼ tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp garam masala, 4tbsp gram flour, 2tbsp rice flour,1tbsp semolina, salt to taste and a pinch of asafoetida powder. Mix well.
  • STEP 4.Gradually add some water (approx ¾ cup)and mix well to make a paste.
  • STEP 5.Add the tapioca pieces into it and mix it. Then, let it rest for 30 mins.
  • STEP 6.Heat oil in a pan. Take a bunch of tapioca strips and put them into the oil.
  • STEP 7.Fry the veg kozhikal in batches. Fry in medium flame.
  • STEP 8.When both sides are golden brown, take it out of the oil.
  • STEP 9.Veg Kozhikal is ready to be served.
