Vazhapo Thoran Recipe

Kerala special healthy sidedish made from banana florets. Vazhaipoo poiryal, a healthy and tasty proriyal with Banana flower. The dry paste of coconut along with cumin and red chili makes this poriyal so tasty and delicious. This poriyal tastes so awesome with any South Indian Main Courses like Kuzhambu, Rasam. Vazhaipoo poriyal is made using cooked banana flower and further tossed along with ground coconut, red chili and cumin seeds mixture. The taste of banana flower and the flavor from ground powder makes this poriyal a wholesome and a great accompaniment for Rice.

Ingredients for Vazhapo Thoran Recipe

  • 6 No.s Banana florets
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • As required Salt
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoon Coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 3 No.s Whole red chilly
  • As required Curry leaves
  • 3 No.s Green chilly
  • 1/4 cup Diced Shallots
  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut

Directions: Vazhapo Thoran Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Apply some oil onto palms to avoid staining. Peel the bananas. Take the white part for cooking.

  • STEP 1.Chop it into slices and immerse them in water to remove the stain. After 15 minutes use it for cooking. In a pan transfer the cut and clean banana florets. Add 1 tsp of turmeric powder, one cup of water and a pinch of salt. Cook on a medium flame.

  • STEP 1.To prepare the tempering, set a deep fry pan on the stove. Add ½ tsp of mustard seeds and permit it to splutter. Add a cup of shallots, three chillies, two cut dy red chillies and a stem of curry leaves. Transfer the sauteed banana florets to the pan and blend together with stirring. Add one cup of grated coconut and stir well for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
