Ingredients for Vanpayar Thoran Recipe

  • 2 cup Red cowpeas
  • 3/4 Grated coconut
  • 3 No.s Shallots
  • 3 No.s Garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 6 No.s Green chilly
  • 2 tablespoon Water
  • 3 No.s Chopped shallots
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 2 No.s Dry red chilly chopped

Directions: Vanpayar Thoran Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.In a pressure cooker add 2 cups of red cowpeas and 4 cups of water. Boil till 45 whistles on a medium flame.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Grind to form a paste ¾ cup of grated coconut, 6 green chilly, 3 shallots, 3 garlics, ½ ts turmeric powder, a pinch of salt and 2 tbsp water.

  • STEP 1.Cook in the pressure cooker without weight for 2 minutes.

  • STEP 1.To prepare tempering, set a deep fry pan on the stove with cooking oil.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, dry red chilly and chopped shallots. Saute till shallots turn brown colour.

step 6

  • STEP 1.Now transfer the cooked red cowpeas to the panand mix well all the ingredients.
