The most famous snack. Vada pav, alternatively spelt wada pao, is a vegetarian fast food dish native to the state of Maharashtra. The dish consists of a deep fried potato dumpling placed inside a bread bun sliced almost in half through the middle. It is generally accompanied with one or more chutneys and a green chili pepper. Made from vada (potatoes filling) and bread. The vada is deep fried which is a major problem.

Ingredients for Vada Pav Recipe

  • As required For Batter
  • 1 cup Besan
  • 2 teaspoon Salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon Chilli Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 cup Water
  • 6 No.s Pao
  • As required For Potato
  • 4 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Hing
  • 2 Green chilli chopped – no
  • As required Curry leaves – handful
  • 2 teaspoon Ginger Chopped
  • 1.50 cup Potatoes Boiled
  • 3/4 teaspoon Salt – and Oil – For frying
  • As required For Garlic Chutney
  • 12 No.s Garlic Cloves
  • 1/4 cup Peanuts
  • 3 tablespoon Sesame Seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Kashmiri Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut

Directions: Vada Pav Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.To make the batter combine all the dry ingredients and whisk it.

  • STEP 2.Pour water and make it into a thick pouring batter. For the potato mixture heat oil and add hing & mustard seeds,add chopped green chilly and curry leaves.

  • STEP 3.Now add turmeric and give a quick stir. Add boiled & roughly mashed potatoes along with salt and cook them for 3 minutes.

  • STEP 1.Remove and let it cool completely. Now make round balls of the potato mixture and dip it in the batter and deep fry on medium hot oil. Remove when cooked.

  • STEP 1.To make garlic chutney, heat a pan and add oil. Then add garlic cloves and lightly cook them and once they brown add peanuts and cook till lightly toasted followed by sesame and turn off the fire.

  • STEP 1.Now add chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and dried coconut. Mix and place them back on fire to stir fry them for 2 minutes.

  • STEP 1.Remove and add this mixture into a blender and make a coarse powder.

  • STEP 1.Now take a pao and slit it in the middle. Place the vada inside the bread and sprinkle with garlic chutney. Press gently and serve.
