Ingredients for Urad Vada Recipe

  • 1/4 cup Urad Dal
  • 1/4 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1/2 Green Chilies, Finely Chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ginger Paste
  • as required A Few Curry Leaves, Chopped
  • 0.13 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • as needed Oil For Deep Frying

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Soak urad dal in water for 4-5 hours. Drain the water and grind the dal to a smooth batter.
  • STEP 2.Add salt, chopped onions, green chilies, ginger, curry leaves, and black pepper to the batter. Mix well.
  • STEP 3.Heat oil in a deep pan. Wet your hands and take a small portion of the batter. Shape it into a round disc with a hole in the center.
  • STEP 4.Gently slide the vada into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy.
  • STEP 5.Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure the urad dal batter is smooth and fluffy for a light and crispy vada.
  • You can add finely chopped coriander leaves and grated coconut to the batter for extra flavor.
  • To make a hole in the center of the vada, wet your thumb and make a small indentation.

Storage and Serving

  • Urad vada is best served hot and fresh.
  • If you have any leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat the vada in a preheated oven or on a tawa (griddle) before serving.
