An easy quick nutritious dish prepared from rice and black urad dal. Ulunthu soru is one of the signature rice dishes of Tirunelveli district made from black urad dal , and outside of Tirunelveli, only few people are aware of this rice. Both veg and non veg side dishes taste awesome with this rice. If you prefer veg side dish, go with thakkali pachadi, ellu thuvaiyal, aviyal or idi puli kulambu along with some appalam.

Ingredients for Ulundhu Satham Recipe

  • 1/2 cup Black split urad dal
  • 1 cup Rice
  • 8-10 No.s Garlic Cloves
  • pinch Fenugreek
  • As required Salt
  • 3 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin seeds
  • 4 Dry red chilli
  • 1/2 cup Fresh coconut
  • pinch Ginger powder

Directions: Ulundhu Satham Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Dry roast black urad dal at low flame for 5 minutes. Wash rice and dal. Grate fresh coconut. Add rice and dal in a cooker along with garlic, fenugreek, salt and water. Cook at medium flame.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Add ghee in a pot add cumin seeds, red chillies and coconut. Temper the rice with it. Serve. Sprinkle ginger powder and mix well.
