Tomatokeftedes or tomato fritters are traditional meze .Tomatokeftedes are fried tomato balls served as an appetizer on the Greek island of Santorini, and generally Cyclades. The dish is made from crushed or pureed tomatoes fried in oil.

Ingredients for Tomatokeftedes Recipe

  • 1.50 pound Tomatoes, diced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3-5 scallions , finely sliced
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped fresh herbs
  • 1/4 cup Parsley
  • 1/4 cup basil or dill
  • 2 tablespoon finely chopped fresh mint
  • 2 teaspoon dried crushed oregano
  • As required Salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 1.50 cup All purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 pound Optional: feta cheese, crumbled
  • As required Vegetable oil, for frying
  • As required tzatziki sauce for dipping

Directions: Tomatokeftedes Recipe

  • STEP 1.In an outsized bowl, mix the diced tomatoes, onions, scallions, and herbs.
  • STEP 2.Season gently with salt and pepper.
  • STEP 3.In a little bowl, mix the flour, leavening, salt, and pepper and whisk to mix.
  • STEP 4.Add the flour to the tomato mixture and blend well with a spatula till everything is combined.
  • STEP 5.Mix within the fragmented feta is mistreatment.
