I am a fan of soups in all seasons, and not just the winter or monsoon. Yes, it is an apt dish to warm the system during the chilly season. But the way it nourishes the mind and soul, suits each and every weather condition. So, here is one popular Indian version of a tangy soup, called the Tomato Shorba. This Tomato Shorba is an easy to prepare and lightly spiced soup of tomatoes (tamatar) flavored with fresh coriander (dhaniya). Vegan, gluten free and low-cal too. This Tomato Shorba is my most favorite pick in the list of Indian shorbas. Because it not just requires the most basic ingredients in the kitchen, but also gets done quickly, is delicious and super nutritious.

Ingredients for Tomato Shorba Recipe

  • 150 grams Tomatoes
  • 1/2 tablespoon ½ tablespoon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ½ teaspoon
  • 1/2 Inch Bay leaf
  • 1/2 Inch Cinemon stick
  • 1 Pieces Cloves
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • 2.50 g 5-6 g
  • 1/2 teaspoon ⅛ teaspoon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ¼ teaspoon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ¼ teaspoon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ¼ teaspoon g
  • 1/2 teaspoon ¼ teaspoon
  • 1/2 As Required Beetroot

Directions: Tomato Shorba Recipe

  • STEP 1.Rinse and chop tomatoes. You will need about 2 cups roughly chopped tomatoes.

  • STEP 2.Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and let them splutter.Then, add bay leaf and khada masala, ginger and garlic. Stir and sauté for a few seconds or till the raw aroma of ginger-garlic goes away.

  • STEP 3.Now, add chopped tomato. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes on low to medium heat.

  • STEP 4.Now, add spice powders and mix well. Cook it till tomatoes become musy or take 1-2 whistles in a cooker. After its cool down blend it well and seive it.

  • STEP 5.Now take it in a sauce pan and add 2 cups water. You can also use vegetable stock instead of water. Simmer Tomato Shorba on low to medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes.Then, season it with salt. Lastly, add 3 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves.

  • STEP 6.Mix and serve Tomato Shorba hot as a soup or as a side gravy dish with veg pulao or jeera rice and enjoy!!!
