#Tomato This easy, quick and delicious Tomato Rice recipe is a favorite staple dish from the Tamil Nadu state of South India. Also known as Thakkali Sadam in Tamil language, this one pot wonder is tasty, healthy and perfect to pack in a tiffin for lunch on the go. While this tomato rice is a tad spicy, you can easily adjust the heat to your liking. Serve it plain, or with crispy papad and boondi raita or any raita that you like. It makes a wonderfully filling and light lunch!

Ingredients for tomato rice Recipe

  • 3 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp jheera
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dhal
  • 1/2 tsp Chana dhal
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 1 inch Cinammon
  • 4 g Cloves
  • 1/2 cup Curry leaves
  • 5 Pieces Cashew
  • 2 g reen Chilli
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger paste
  • 3 Pieces Tomato
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Mint
  • 2 cup Rice
  • 2 tbsp Coriander

Directions: Tomato Rice Recipe

  • STEP 1.(1)firstly, in a large kadai heat 3 tsp oil and splutter tempering.
  • STEP 2.(2)also, saute 5 cashews until golden brown.
  • STEP 3.(3)add 2 green chilli, 1/2 tsp ginger paste and saute well.
  • STEP 4.(4)now add 3 tomatoes and saute until tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  • STEP 5.(5)additionally add 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp salt and 2 tbsp mint leaves.
  • STEP 6.(6)saute and cook for a minute.
  • STEP 7.(7)furthermore, add 2 cups cooked rice and mix gently.
  • STEP 8.(8)cover and simmer for 5 minutes to absorb all masala.
  • STEP 9.(9)finally,garnish with coriander leaves and serve tomato rice with raita or any curry of your choice.
