How to Make Thaen Mittai Recipe

Preparation Directions

STEP 01

Soak in water for 3 hours 1 cup of idli rice and ¼ cup of leveled urad dal.

Cooking Directions

STEP 01

Grind the soaked and dried idli rice and urad dal in a mixer grinder to get a batter.

STEP 02

To this batter add 1/4tsp of baking powder and a pinch of salt to taste.

Mix a tsp of orange or red food colour to the batter and stir well.

STEP 05

In a frying pan, pour in 1 cup of cooking oil.

STEP 06

Scoop up the batter with hands or spoon and gently dip into the frying pan to form balls.

STEP 07

Saute in a low flame for 2-3 minutes.

STEP 08

Transfer the balls into the sugar syrup. Let the syrup get soaked in for a few minutes until it becomes soggy.

STEP 09

Take out the balls and roll it in sugar crystals for final touch up.

Cooking Directions for Sugar Syrup

STEP 01

Boil in pan 2 cup sugar and ½ cup of water for a while.
