Ingredients for Taro Root Curry Recipe

  • 62.50 grams Colocasia root
  • 1/4 pieces Tamarind
  • to taste Salt
  • 0.06 cup Fresh coconut
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 pieces Onions
  • 1/4 tablespoon Coconut oil
  • 1/2 pieces Onions chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 pieces Dry red chilli
  • 1.75 pieces Curry leaves

Directions: Taro Root Curry Recipe

  • STEP 1.To begin making the Taro root curry, first thoroughly wash and scrub theboiled Taro roots. (You can soak them for 20-30 minutes in water, so that the dirt comes off easily).
  • STEP 2.Apply some coconut (or any other) oil to your hands and peel them. Be sure to remove the green layer under the skin too.
  • STEP 3.Cut the Taro root into bite sized pieces.
  • STEP 4.In a sauce pan/Kadai or a seasoned earthen pot add the Taro root, tamarind piece(s), salt and some water. Cook on low flame till it is well cooked.
  • STEP 5.Meanwhile, in a mixer blend together the coconut, chilli powder and small onions.
  • STEP 6.Add this mixture to the cooked Taro roots, add salt if required and cook for 5-6 minutes more.
  • STEP 7.Heat oil in a small pan and add the mustard seeds. Once they splutter add the cumin seeds.
  • STEP 8.Add the onions, curry leaves and sauté for a minute.
  • STEP 9.Add the red chillies, sauté for a few seconds and add this tempering to the Taro root curry.
  • STEP 10.Mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • STEP 11.Taro Root Curry Is ready, serve with hot rice or phulkas.
