  • 0.06 cup Urad Dal
  • 0.13 teaspoon Fenugreek Seeds
  • As required Salt To Taste

  • 1/2 Green Chilies, Slit
  • 0.06 teaspoon Turmeric Powder

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Prepare the idli batter by soaking rice and lentils overnight, then grinding them into a smooth paste.
  • STEP 2.Ferment the batter for 6-8 hours or until it doubles in volume.
  • STEP 3.Grease the idli molds with oil and pour the batter into each mold.
  • STEP 4.Steam the idlis in a steamer for 10-12 minutes or until they are cooked through.
  • STEP 5.Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add curry leaves, chopped onions, and green chilies.
  • STEP 6.Saute until the onions turn golden brown, then add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  • STEP 7.Mix well and add the steamed idlis to the pan. Toss gently to coat the idlis with the tadka.
  • STEP 8.Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure the idli batter is fermented well for soft and fluffy idlis.
  • You can add grated carrots or chopped vegetables to the tadka for added flavor and nutrition.
  • If you don't have an idli steamer, you can use a regular steamer or a pressure cooker without the whistle.
