Sweet khichdi is a sattvic dish prepared without onion and garlic in the households of Odisha on the occasion of various pujas . It is prepared with basmati rice and moong dal along with mixed whole spices commonly known as garam masala.

Ingredients for Sweet khichdi Recipe

  • As required Ingredients-
  • 0-125 gm basmati rice
  • 37.50 gm Moong dal-
  • 0-7.50 nos Sugar gm.
  • 1/4 inch Ginger- piece.
  • 0-2 nos Black pepper
  • 3/4 nos Green cardamom -
  • 0-1.25 nos Clove
  • 0-1/2 nos black cardamom
  • 1/4 nos Turmeric powder - tsp.
  • As required Water - double the quantity of rice and dal .
  • 1.25 nos cashews.
  • 1/4 nos Raisins- tbsp.
  • 1/4 nos Salt - tsp.
  • 1/2 nos Bay leaves -
  • 1/4 tbsp Ghee -

Directions: Sweet Khichdi Recipe

  • STEP 1.1.Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pressure cooker .When the cooker gets heated, add half crushed green cardamom, black cardamom, clove , black pepper ,and ginger ,bay leaves into it .
  • STEP 2.2.Saute cashew and raisins till golden brown in the ghee.
  • STEP 3.3.Add water double the quantity of basmati rice and moong dal .
  • STEP 4.4.Add 500 grams basmati rice into it and 150 grams moong dal. Add 1 teaspoon turmeric powder and 1 tsp salt and 30 grams sugar into it . Mix well.
  • STEP 5.5.Then cover the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 2 whistles.. After 2 whistles open the lid and let it come to room temperature.
  • STEP 6.6.Sweet khichdi is now ready to be served .
