Sushi has emerged as one of the most popular Japanese delicacies today. It is essentially comprises of small, bite-sized balls or rolls of vinegar-flavored cold rice that is combined with vegetables, meat or raw sea food. Did you know the word 'sushi' means "it is sour", and while you may have had many different flavoured sushis in your life, traditionally the raw sea food, the vinegar ad the soy sauce are supposed to leave a sour mouth-feel after you have tuck into a sushi. Sushi traces its origins to 3rd-5th century B.C, it is said that they were a staple among people working on the paddy fields, where it was a common practice to ferment fish with salt, rice and vinegar, after which the rice would be discarded. The earliest form of sushi (narezsushi), was created in Japan around the Yayoi period. One of the trickiest parts of making sushi is making the rice, with right consistency and sourness. With this recipe, you can nail sushi rice at home.

Ingredients for Sushi Rice Recipe

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1.25 cup Water
  • 3 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 3/4 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Steps To Prepare

  • STEP 1.Cook the rice in a rice cooker. Add a little less amount of water than you add for standard rice preparation because you will also be adding vinegar later, which will provide ample moisture to the rice.

Cooking Method

  • STEP 1.Mix rice vinegar, sugar and salt in a small bowl.
  • STEP 2.You can heat the vinegar to make mixing easier, but do not bring it to a boil.
  • STEP 3.Put the rice in a bowl. Add the vinegar mixture. Do not mix aggressively. Cut the vinegar mixture into the rice using a spatula, until the rice is nicely combined with the vinegar mixture.

Storage And Serving Method

  • STEP 1.Use cold rice to build on the sushi.
