  • 1/2 cup Sundakkai
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Urad Dal
  • as required A Few Curry Leaves
  • 1/2 Onion, Chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1 tablespoon Grated Coconut

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash the sundakkai and boil it in salted water until tender.
  • STEP 2.Drain the water and set aside.
  • STEP 3.Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves.
  • STEP 4.Once the mustard seeds splutter and dal turns golden, add chopped onions and saut茅 until translucent.
  • STEP 5.Add the boiled sundakkai, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  • STEP 6.Cover and cook for a few minutes until the flavors blend together.
  • STEP 7.Finally, add grated coconut and mix well. Cook for another minute.
  • STEP 8.Remove from heat and serve hot as a side dish with rice and sambar or rasam.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to boil the sundakkai until tender to remove its bitterness.
  • You can adjust the spice level by adding more or less red chili powder.
  • For added flavor, you can also temper the poriyal with mustard seeds and urad dal.
