Sukhi Urad Dal Recipe

A simple, high protein dry urad dal recipe prepared by soaking the dal and cooking it along with ghee, onions, chilli, corriander leaves along with some flavourful and aromatic spices ike turmeric, cumin seeds, asafeodita, corriander powder, garam masala and some lemon juice.

Ingredients for Sukhi Urad Dal Recipe

  • 1 cup Split white urad dal
  • 1 teaspoon Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 1 inch ginger finely chopped
  • 1 No.s onion finely chopped
  • 1 No.s green chilli finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric
  • As required Salt
  • As required Coriander leaves chopped for garnish A handful
  • 1 No.s Lime juice

Directions: Sukhi Urad Dal Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak 1 cup of split white urad dal for 4 to 5 hours

step 2

  • STEP 1.In a pressure cook, use a separator dish put 1 cup of soaked split white urad dal after straining off the water. Add ¼ cup water in the dish and additional water in the pressure cooker.

  • STEP 1.Pressure cook for 2 whistles and turn off the heat. Allow the pressure to release naturally. When the urad dal is ready it will be cooked but firm.

  • STEP 1.In a preheated pan add 1 tsp ghee, 1 tsp cumin seeds and allow it to crackle. Then add ¼ tsp asafoetida, 1 inch ginger finely chopped, 1 onion finely chopped, 1 green chilli finely chopped. Saute till the onions become soft and translucent.

  • STEP 1.At this stage add in ½ tsp coriander, powder, ½ tsp garam masala, ½ tsp turmeric and the cooked urad dal and salt to taste. Stir to combine well.

  • STEP 1.Then cover the pan and cook the dal further for 3 to 4 minutes on medium to low heat. The dal will become fluffy.

step 7

  • STEP 1.Finally add a handful of chopped coriander leaves and juice of 1 lime. Give it a stir and turn off the heat.
