  • STEP 2.Place the flathead fillets in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Let them marinate for 15 minutes.
  • STEP 3.Prepare a steamer by filling a pot with water and bringing it to a boil. Place a steaming rack or basket in the pot.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to marinate the fillets for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
  • If you don't have a steamer, you can use a large pot with a tight-fitting lid. Place a heatproof plate or a bamboo steamer on top of a heatproof rack or a few crumpled aluminum foil balls to elevate the fish above the water.
  • Be careful not to overcook the fish, as it can become dry and lose its delicate texture.

Storage and Serving

  • Leftover steamed flathead fillets can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • To reheat, gently steam the fillets for a few minutes until warmed through.
  • Serve the steamed flathead fillets as a main course with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables, or flake the fish and use it in salads or sandwiches.
