Squid or kanava curry or nadan koonthal curry can become your family's favourite curry dish if cooked in traditional style. This is a fantastic recipe for all seafood lovers. Uncooked squid contains around 13 grams of protein, 0.4 grams of total saturated fat, along 200 milligrams of cholesterol. It also has 0.09 grams of monounsaturated fat and 0.4 grams of polyunsaturated fat. Many people take omega-3 supplements or eat more foods with omega-3 fatty acids — such as salmon — because of the cardiovascular benefits, including their ability to raise HDL levels. Calamari oil has gained much positive media attention for its omega-3 fatty acids in recent years. Unfortunately, squid is available primarily on the seashore side and not in an all-around place. But Kerala is very popular for squids' availability, resulting in a tender rich gravy, perfect for roti, kappa, and rice.

Ingredients for Squid/Kanava Curry Recipe

  • 100 gram Squid
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 green chili finely chopped
  • As required Ginger finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2-4 curry leaves
  • 1 cup Shredded coconut
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon aniseed
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • As required Cardamom
  • As required Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon coconut/ cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 red chilies

Cooking directions

  • STEP 1.Chop the gingers. Chop the green chilies and onion.

  • STEP 1.Shred the coconut . In a cooking bowl add the 100gm squid ,chopped onion, green chilies and ginger

  • STEP 1.Add 1tsp turmeric powder,1tsp shredded coconut and 2 to 3 curry leaves . Add 1/2 cup water and heat the bowl.

  • STEP 1.Cover the bowl and let it cook . Heat the frying pan and roast 1 cup shredded coconut

  • STEP 1.Add 1tsp red chili powder, coriander powder , cardamom , cinnamon and 1tsp aniseed . Mix well and add 1 cup of water and cook well for 1 min

  • STEP 1.Add the mixture of shredded coconut and spices to the cooking squid in the cooking bowl . And let it cook for 2min and on the other side in a frying pan

  • STEP 1.Add 1tsp of coconut/cooking oil , fry 1tsp of mustard seeds , 2 red chilies, ⅓ cup of chopped onion and 3 curry leaves in it .

  • STEP 1.Add this fried spices to the cooking squid in another bowl with the oil . Mix well and serve.
