Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Pressure cook the toor dal until soft and mushy.
  • STEP 2.Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and fenugreek seeds.
  • STEP 3.Add onions, curry leaves, and green chilies. Saute until onions turn golden brown.
  • STEP 4.Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, and sambar powder. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
  • STEP 5.Add the cooked dal, vegetables, tamarind pulp, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
  • STEP 6.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or idli.

Cooking Tips

  • You can add a variety of vegetables like carrots, drumsticks, brinjal, or pumpkin.
  • Adjust the quantity of tamarind pulp and sambar powder according to your taste preference.
  • If the sambar is too thick, add some water to adjust the consistency.
