Black bean soup prepared in many parts of Latin America is a very simple dish made with a few ingredients. Sopa negra is a traditional Costa Rican soup with variations throughout Latin America. It is made with the combination of black beans, onions, bell peppers, hot peppers, cilantro, garlic, and Chicken broth. It is a black bean soup. Sops negra is made of cooking liquid from black beans and always includes hard boiled eggs. It is a very healthy meal to include in your diet.

Ingredients for Sopa Negra Recipe

  • 300 gram black beans
  • 1 No.s big onion
  • 1 No.s red bell pepper
  • As required A handful coriander
  • As required A handful celery leaves
  • As required Olive oil
  • As required Salt

Directions: Sopa Negra Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.1 - soak the beans overnight in water.

step 2

  • STEP 2.2 - drain the water next day and rinse them with water.

step 3

  • STEP 3.3 - put them in a cooking pot and add enough water to cover the beans.

step 4

  • STEP 4.4 - mix chopped tomatoes, ½ onion and coriander in a bowl and add some oil and salt.

step 5

  • STEP 5.1 - cover and cook the beans until they become soft and tender.

step 6

  • STEP 6.2 - drain the beans once they are cooked.

step 7

  • STEP 7.Setp 3 - in a pan saute bell pepper, ½ onion and celery leaves.

step 8

  • STEP 8.4 - add the bean broth to this and cook for 2-3 minutes.

step 9

  • STEP 9.5 - combine everything and give it a nice stir.

step 10

  • STEP 10.6 - simmer for a minute and serve hot.
