Directions: Silverbeet And Feta Rolls Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • STEP 2.In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped silverbeet, onions, and garlic. Sauté until the silverbeet is wilted and the onions are translucent.
  • STEP 3.Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Stir in crumbled feta cheese and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • STEP 4.On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle. Cut the pastry into smaller rectangles, about 10x15cm (4x6 inches).
  • STEP 5.Place a spoonful of the silverbeet and feta mixture onto one end of each pastry rectangle. Roll up the pastry tightly, enclosing the filling.
  • STEP 6.Transfer the rolls onto the prepared baking sheet, seam side down. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  • STEP 7.Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed and golden brown.
  • STEP 8.Remove from the oven and let the rolls cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
  • STEP 9.Serve the silverbeet and feta rolls as an appetizer, snack, or light lunch. They can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to thoroughly wash the silverbeet leaves before cooking to remove any dirt or grit.
  • If you prefer a milder flavor, you can substitute spinach for silverbeet.
  • Feel free to add additional herbs or spices to the filling, such as dill or paprika, for extra flavor.
  • For a vegan version, you can replace the feta cheese with a dairy-free alternative or omit it altogether.
  • Serve the rolls with a side of tzatziki or a simple tomato sauce for dipping.

Storage and Serving

  • Store any leftover silverbeet and feta rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • To reheat, place the rolls in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 10 minutes, or until warmed through.
  • Serve the rolls as an appetizer at parties or gatherings, or enjoy them as a quick and tasty snack.
  • Pair the rolls with a fresh salad or vegetable side dish for a complete meal.
