The Shan-Style Rice is a bowl of sticky rice popular in the Shan States and they have it as their breakfast or lunch. Make this super simple and quick recipe with handful of ingredients like potatoes, onions, rice, salmon, ginger, garlic, tomatoes ans some spices and turn them into little rice balls and serve with fried onions.

Ingredients for Shan-Style Rice Recipe

  • As required For Shan style Rice
  • 250 gram Jasmine Rice
  • 3 Potatoes
  • 1 Salmon
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • 3 inch Ginger
  • As required Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt
  • 2 teaspoon fish sauce
  • As required Tomato Sauce
  • As required Garnish

Directions: Shan-style Rice Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Start by boiling the potatoes and peeling their skin off. Drain the water and start mashing the potatoes and add salt as required.

  • STEP 1.Wash and cook the jasmine rice with a ratio of 11.2.5. so in 250g of rice, you can add 300ml water approximately or 350ml.

  • STEP 1.Quarter the tomatoes for making the tomato sauce and chop onion garlic and ginger. Fry the onions till golden brown and crispy.

  • STEP 1.Take a pan, add 2tbsp oil, and add the salmon fish. Saute it with salt to taste, ½ tsp turmeric, 2tsp fish sauce, chopped ginger, and garlic.

  • STEP 1.Boil the tomatoes together with the tinned tomatoes. Once the tomatoes turn soft, use a hand blender and make a smooth paste out of it.

  • STEP 1.Heat oil, when hot add turmeric, chili, and paprika. Add the tomato mixture to the oil. Add half a tube of tomato puree. Reduce till puree like consistency.

  • STEP 1.In a large bowl, add the cooked rice, mashed potatoes, tomato sauce or puree, a handful of fried onions. And mix them all thoroughly. Add salt and fish sauce to taste.

  • STEP 1.Lastly make a rice ball structure and serve with fried onions, lime, and spring onion on top.
