A spicy Bhutanese preparation of sun dried meat cooked with dried red chillies and garlic and finished with cheese.Shakam is Bhutanese dried beef, which is among the most famous of meats. The beef is dried and preserved so it tastes similar to beef jerky but thicker, and not quite completely dehydrated.

Ingredients for Shakam Datshi Recipe

  • 2 cup Sun dried meat chopped or as desired
  • 15-20 Kashmiri red chili and regular dry red chilli Nos
  • 2 Tomato Nos
  • 2 tablespoon Garlic Cloves
  • 2 Cheese slice

Directions: Shakam Datshi Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1. soak 15 to 20 dry red chilies in water.

step 2

  • STEP 1. in a pan add 2 cup bite sized sun dried meat pieces, 1 length wise quartered tomato, 1tbsp garlic cloves chopped, 1tsp sichuan peppercorn (optional), ½tsp salt ,½tsp olive oil, half the quantity of soaked red chilies slit and 1 cup water. Put the pan on high heat, cover it with a lid and let it come to a boil.

  • STEP 1. when it is boiling reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 to 6 minutes. Stir occasionally. Check if the meat is cooked well.

step 4

  • STEP 1.3 at this stage add the remaining soaked chilies and 2 slices of cheese. Mix till the cheese melts to no overcook.

step 5

  • STEP 1.shakam datshi is ready. Serve hot with steamed rice, chapati etc.
