  • 0.13 cup Split Pigeon Peas
  • 1/4 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1/4 Tomato, Chopped
  • 1/4 Carrot, Chopped
  • 1/4 Potato, Chopped
  • 1/4 Drumstick, Chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • as required A Few Curry Leaves
  • 1/2 tablespoon Sambhar Powder
  • 1/4 tablespoon Tamarind Pulp
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon Oil
  • as required Coriander Leaves For Garnish

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak rice and lentils separately for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Pressure cook the rice and lentils with water, turmeric powder, and salt until well-cooked.
  • STEP 3.Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves.
  • STEP 4.Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped vegetables, sambhar powder, tamarind pulp, and salt. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
  • STEP 6.Add the cooked rice and lentils to the pan and mix well.
  • STEP 7.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with papad and raita.

Cooking Tips

  • You can add drumsticks, brinjal, pumpkin, or any other vegetables of your choice to the sambhar rice.
  • Adjust the quantity of sambhar powder according to your taste preference.
  • For a richer taste, you can add a spoonful of ghee while serving.
