Leafy and healthy side dish in kerala style. Ceylon Spinach or Sambar Cheera is a popular backyard spinach of Kerala and rich in Vitamin A and C, calcium, iron, and dietary fiber. A handful of this organic spinach is chopped and stir fried with coarsely grounded coconut, a simple, quick and healthy side dish for lunch.

Ingredients for Sambar Cheera Thoran Recipe

  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 2 No.s Dry red chilly
  • 2 cup Chopped water leaves
  • As required Salt
  • 2 No.s Garlic
  • 4 No.s Shallots
  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 2 No.s Green chilly
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds

Directions: Sambar Cheera Thoran Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.In a pan splutter ½ tsp mustard seeds in 2 tbsp oil.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Then add 2 dry red chilly,2 cups of chopped water leaves and a pinch of salt to taste. Mix well.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Cook covered with a lid for 5 minutes on a medium flame.

step 4

  • STEP 1.To prepare the coconut mix, add ½ cup of grated coconut, ½ tsp turmeric powder, ¼ tsp cumin seeds, 2 green chilly, 2 garlic and 4 shallots into the grinder.

  • STEP 1.Transfer the coconut mixx to the pan and cook in open till the water content is fully vaporized.
