  • 1/4 cup Rice
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Urad Dal
  • as needed A Few Curry Leaves
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain the water and set aside.
  • STEP 2.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add urad dal and curry leaves.
  • STEP 3.Add the soaked rice and saut��� for a few minutes.
  • STEP 4.Add water, salt, and turmeric powder. Mix well and cover the pan with a lid.
  • STEP 5.Cook on low heat until the rice is cooked and all the water is absorbed.
  • STEP 6.Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before fluffing it with a fork.
  • STEP 7.Serve the Rice Upma/Arisi Upma hot with chutney or sambar.

Cooking Tips

  • You can add vegetables like carrots, peas, or beans to make it more nutritious.
  • Adjust the quantity of water according to the desired consistency of the Upma.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves for added freshness.
