Directions: Rice Cooker Chocolate Cake Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.To prepare the dry ingredients, in a large mixing bowl, sieve 1 cup all purpose flour, 1 cup white sugar, ⅔ cups unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking soda, ½ tsp baking powder and ½ tsp salt. Press any remaining lumps through with a spatula. Whisk them till all ingredients are well combined.
  • STEP 2.For the wet ingredients, crack 2 eggs into a mixing bowl, ½ cup butter milk, ⅓ cup of melted butter, ⅓ cup strong coffee, 1 tsp vanilla extract. The melted butter and coffee should not be warm. Whisk them together until well combined.
  • STEP 3.Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the dry ingredients.
  • STEP 4.Stir until it reaches a thick batter consistency.
  • STEP 5.Grease the rice cooker by applying soft butter to the bottom and around the sides. If the rice cooker pot is not non stick line it with a round sheet of parchment paper.
  • STEP 6.Pour the batter into the rice cooker and clear the bowl with a plastic spatula.
  • STEP 7.Tap the pot on the cutting board to remove any big air bubbles and to smoothen out the surface.
  • STEP 8.Put the pot in the rice cooker and turn it on. Cook for 1 hour. If the button clicks to the ‘keep warm’ setting after 15 minutes press it back to ‘cook’. Hence the button will be pressed 4 times in total.
  • STEP 9.Towards the end of 1 hour insert a toothpick into the cake. If it comes out clean then the cake is ready. The time may vary with different rice cookers. Keep a check.
  • STEP 10. Take the pot out and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  • STEP 11. To make the chocolate ganache, in a saucepan heat 145 heavy cream to a slight shimmer. Do not boil.
  • STEP 12. Pour this into a boil that has 200 gms chopped semi sweet chocolate. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • STEP 13. Then use a hand whisk and whisk it to a smooth chocolate mixture. It should be shiny and smooth and lump free.
  • STEP 14. Add ¼ tsp salt and 2 tbsp soft butter. Keep whisking till the butter melts.
  • STEP 15. Chocolate ganache is ready.
  • STEP 16. Once the cake has cooled it will come away from the pot. Put a plate over the mouth of the pot and flip it over to empty the cake onto it.
  • STEP 17. Pour the chocolate ganache over the cake from the centre and use a spatula to push the ganache over the sides.
  • STEP 18. Decorate the cake with chocolate shavings made by grating chocolate with a peeler.
  • STEP 19. Top with halved strawberries.

Preparation Direction

  • STEP 1. Chocolate cake can be made sweeter by adding more sugar when preparing the batter.
