Ingredients for Red Braised Pork Belly Recipe

  • 12-16 ounce Pork Belly
  • 4 tablespoon Oil
  • 6 Garlic halved cloves
  • 3 Ginger slices
  • 2 cup Water
  • 1 tablespoon Dark soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 4 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon Rock sugar
  • 2 Star anise Nos
  • As required Ingredients for sweet sauce
  • 1/2 cup Liquid of simmering pork belly
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Directions: Red Braised Pork Belly Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Trim and wash 12 to 16 oz pork belly.

step 2

  • STEP 2.Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add the pork belly to the water and boil for 10 minutes to remove impurities.

step 3

  • STEP 3.Then remove it from the pot and rinse it under running cold water.

step 4

  • STEP 4.-1)cut 12 to 16 oz pork belly into ½ inch thick slices.

  • STEP 5.-2)preheat a wok on medium heat and add 3 tbsp oil, add 6 cloves of garlic halved and 3 slices of ginger. Stir fry till fragrance.

  • STEP 6.-3)then turn the heat to high and add the sliced pork belly.

  • STEP 7.-4)stir fry on high heat for a few minutes till the pork is seared well on all sides.

  • STEP 8.-5)transfer the pork to a pot and add 2 cups of water.

  • STEP 9.-6)next add 1 tbsp dark soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp rock sugar, 2 star anise.

  • STEP 10.-7)cover the pot and simmer the pork for 30 minutes.

  • STEP 11.-8)heat the wok on medium heat and add 1 tbsp oil, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp rock sugar ( cane sugar), ½ cup of liquid form the pot of simmering pork belly and stir to dissolve the sugar.

  • STEP 12.-9)after 30 min of simmering, transfer the pork with the simmering liquid to the wok.

step 13

  • STEP 13.-10)cover the wok with a lid and simmer for another 15 minutes till the liquid reduces and thickens.

step 14

  • STEP 14.-11then add ½ tsp salt to balance the sweet flavours. Mix well.

  • STEP 15.Red braised pork belly is ready.
