How to Make Rava Upma Recipe

step 1

Fill a pan with 3 ½ cups of water and put it on the heat. Add ¼ cup finely chopped carrots,¼ cup finely chopped beans. Bring to a brisk boil and then turn the heat to low.

step 2

Preheat another pan and add 2 tbsp ghee, ½ tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp split urad dal.stirring on low heat allow the mustard seeds to crackle and the dal to turn light golden brown .

step 3

At this stage add 1 chopped onion, 1 inch chopped ginger, 1 green chilli chopped or slit, and saute till the onions softens and turn slightly pinkish. Do not caramelise the onions.

step 4

To this add the rava and roast it on low to medium heat mixing well for 30 to 40 seconds till the raw smell of the rava goes away.

step 5

Gradually add the water that has been simmering and keep stirring to avoid lumps forming. The rava will absorb all the water.

step 6

Add 1 to ½ tbsp ghee, 1 sprig of torn curry leaf, mix well and cover the pan. Cook on simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. Every few minutes check the consistency of the rava upma. If it thickens too much add 1tbsp or so of warm water.

step 7

Lastly squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into the upma and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Turn off the heat. Rava upma is ready.
