Dhokla recipe is prepared from beasn or chickpea flour, but this recipe is an alternative and prepared from rava or semolina. Rava dhokla or Suji ka Dhokla is a soft, fluffy, steamed savory cake made from rava (suji or semolina or cream of wheat) together with herbs, spices, white sesame seeds and topped with coconut and coriander leaves. For the leavening of the batter, fruit salt is used. Usually, this recipe is made with curd (yogurt) and sometimes for a tasty vegan recipe it is made with lemon juice.

Ingredients for Rava Dhokla Recipe

  • 1/2 cup rava / semolina
  • 1/2 cup thick curd
  • 1/4 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili paste
  • 2 teaspoon Oil
  • As required Salt
  • 0.13 As required cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon eno fruit salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 1/2 pinch hing / asafoetida
  • As required A few curry leaves
  • 1 No.s green chili, slit
  • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves, finely chopped

Directions: Rava Dhokla Recipe

  • STEP 1.In a large mixing bowl take rava and curd, add sugar, chopped ginger, chili paste and salt.
  • STEP 2.Mix well to form a thick batter. Rest for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 3.Add water as required and mix well.
  • STEP 4.Add eno fruit salt. Mix gently till the batter turns frothy.
  • STEP 5.Transfer to the greased plate and steam the dhokla batter for 12 minutes.
  • STEP 6.Take a pan for tempering and pour 2tsp of oil.
  • STEP 7.Then add mustard seeds, cumin, sesame seeds and hing.
  • STEP 8.Once the mustard seeds splutter add curry leaves and green chili.
  • STEP 9.Saute for 1-2 minutes and spread this tempering over prepared dhokla. Sprinkle coriander leaves.
  • STEP 10.Cut the dhokla in pieces and serve on a plate.
