Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a blender, grind the popcorn into a coarse powder.
  • STEP 2.In a mixing bowl, combine the ground popcorn, gram flour, chopped onions, green chilies, coriander leaves, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, salt, and water. Mix well to form a smooth batter.
  • STEP 3.Heat a non-stick pan or tawa over medium heat. Pour a ladleful of the batter onto the pan and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin cheela.
  • STEP 4.Drizzle some oil around the edges of the cheela and cook until the bottom turns golden brown. Flip the cheela and cook the other side until it is crispy and cooked through.
  • STEP 5.Remove the cheela from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  • STEP 6.Serve the popcorn cheela hot with chutney or ketchup.

Cooking Tips

  • You can add grated vegetables like carrots or bell peppers to the batter for added nutrition and flavor.
  • Make sure the batter is of pouring consistency. If it is too thick, add a little more water.
