Pithla is a vegetarian Maharashtrian dish which is made from chick pea flour or besan. It is served with jwar roti or bhakhri. It is also known as junka bhakar. Though it is considered as peasant's food it is popular in mostly house as it is delicious and easy to make.

Ingredients for Pithla Recipe

  • 1/4 cup Besan
  • 1 cups water
  • to taste Salt
  • 0.06 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon Oil
  • 0.13 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • a few Curry leaves
  • 1/2 Pieces crushed green chilies
  • 1/4 Pieces Finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon Crushed garlic
  • 1/2 tablespoon Chopped coriander leaves

Directions: Pithla Recipe

  • STEP 1.1) In a vessel take besan. Add 2 cups water and make lump free mixture. Add salt, turmeric powder and red chili powder and mix well.
  • STEP 2.2) In a pan heat oil. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When mustard seeds crackles add curry leaves and crushed green chilies.
  • STEP 3.3) Add chopped onion and garlic. Saute till onion turns translucent.
  • STEP 4.4) Add prepared besan mixture and stir continuously. Mixture will start to be thick. Take care lump should not be form.
  • STEP 5.5) Add remaining two cuos water. Mix well. Now stir in between. Cook on low flame until mixture thickens or get desired consistency.
  • STEP 6.6) Add chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Delicious pithla is ready to serve. Serve with jwar roti or bhakhri.
