  • 1/2 cup Flattened Rice
  • 1/4 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1.25 En Chilies, Chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 1/2 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • as needed A Few Curry Leaves
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash the flattened rice (phova) in water and soak it for 5 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Drain the water and transfer the soaked phova to a mixing bowl.
  • STEP 3.Add grated coconut, chopped green chilies, chopped coriander leaves, lemon juice, salt, and sugar to the bowl.
  • STEP 4.In a small pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they start spluttering, add curry leaves and turmeric powder.
  • STEP 5.Pour the tempering over the phova mixture and mix well.
  • STEP 6.Let the flavors meld for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  • STEP 7.Phova Chetni can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • STEP 8.Serve Phova Chetni as a breakfast dish or as a side with main meals.

  • Adjust the quantity of green chilies according to your spice preference.
  • You can add roasted peanuts or cashews for extra crunch and flavor.
