Nutritious side dish prepared with ridge gourd. Peechinga Thoran is highly nutritious and power packed with all vitamins, fiber and minerals. Ridge gourd or Dodka / Luffa is known as Peechinga in Malayalam, Peerkangai in Tamil and Turai in Hindi. The deep green Peechinga helps to purify the blood and helps to regulate blood sugar levels. Most people are unaware of the benefits of Peechinga and tend to avoid this wonder vegetable.

Ingredients for Peechinga Thoran Recipe

  • 1 No.s Ridge gourd finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2 No.s Dry red chilly chopped
  • 3 No.s Green chilly chopped
  • 5 No.s Chopped shallots
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Grated coconut

Directions: Peechinga Thoran Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Peel off the skin off the ridge gourd.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Split open and remove the fleshy part from the centre.

step 3

  • STEP 1.In a pan splutter ½ tsp mustard seeds in oil and add ½ tsp cumin seeds.

step 4

  • STEP 1.Now add in chopped green chilly, dry red chilly, shallots and a sprig of curry leaves. Saute till it becomes tender.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Then add 1 ridge gourd which is finely chopped into pieces.

step 6

  • STEP 1.Mix well ingredientsand add a pinch of salt to taste.

step 7

  • STEP 1.Cook in a low flame for around 5-7 minutes.

step 8

  • STEP 1.Add ½ cup of grated coconut and continue to stir cook for another 2-3 minutes.
