Pasticho is the Venezuelan version of lasagna or the Greek Pastitsio. This comforting dish layers pasta with a creamy bechamel sauce, and tomato meat sauce seasoned with soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
STEP 1. add the chopped onions and garlic to it and cook until it becomes translucent.

STEP 1. crumble the beef into small parts.

STEP 1. mix in the soy sauce and worcestershire sauce. Cook and stir occasionally, until browned.

STEP 1.5 - mix in the tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, bay leaf, oregano, sugar, and red wine. Simmer it and reduce the flame.

STEP 2.6 - cook and stir occasionally, until the sauce thickens, 30-45 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, if needed.

STEP 3.7 - remove the bay leaf.

STEP 4.8 - boil some water in a pot and add lasagna to it and cook until it becomes tender.

STEP 1. once cooked drain the lasagna and keep aside.

STEP 1. melt some butter in a pan and whisk in flour until golden and bubbling. Increase heat to medium. Slowly and gradually add the milk and stir until it thickens. Season with salt, pepper, nutmeg, and parmesan. Remove from heat once smooth.

STEP 1. preheat oven to 350 degrees f.

STEP 1. cover the bottom of baking pan with sauce.

STEP 1. top with a layer of the lasagna noodles.

STEP 1. spread a layer of the meat sauce and over with a layer of pasta.

STEP 1. spread about 1 cup of the bechamel sauce over the pasta, top with mozzarella cheese, and 2 tablespoons of the parmesan. Cover with meat sauce, then 1 cup of the bechamel sauce, mozzarella, and 2 tablespoons of parmesan.

STEP 1. add meat sauce and a layer of pasta. Cover with remaining sauce with mozzarella and parmesan.

STEP 1. cover baking dish with foil and bake it in preheated oven for 30 minutes.

STEP 1. remove the foil and bake until cheese turns bubbly and golden or for around 10-15 minutes.
